Enfield

The county seat of Edgecombe County was there from 1745 until the formation of Halifax in 1759; the first Halifax court met there, but Halifax (town) was afterward the county seat. Inc. 1861. Named probably for the town of Enfield, Middlesex, England. Known originally as Huckleberry Swamp. Alt. 111.
