Monroe

Also known as: Robinson's Ferry
A former community in Warren County
… former community in NE Warren County on Roanoke River. Grew up around Robinson's Ferry after Clack Robinson laid out a town on his lands near the ferry in 1818, named it for President James Monroe, and sold lots to prospective citizens; a post office, tavern, racetrack, tobacco warehouse, and stores soon sprang up. It was shown on the MacRae map, 1833, as a well-established community. In 1840, when the Raleigh and Gaston Railroad was completed, it began a rapid decline.
