Dram Tree Point

… extends from Eagles Island, W New Hanover County, into Cape Fear River. Named for an old moss-covered cypress tree that stood there; it is said that outgoing mariners, in passing the point, had a drink to the success of their voyage. To those inward bound, it was a welcome signal that port was near.
