Morris Field Air Base

… in Charlotte, central Mecklenburg County, was dedicated April 21, 1941, and used to train combat pilots during World War II. Named for Maj. William C. Morris of Cabarrus County, distinguished World War I pilot. Property returned to city of Charlotte in 1946 for use as municipal airport.
