Henderson
Also known as: Lonesome Valley
… city and county seat, S central Vance County. Alt. 513. Inc. 1841 and named for Leonard Henderson (1772-1833), chief justice of N.C. Supreme Court from 1829 to 1833. Originally settled in 1789 when Samuel Reavis and his sons Lewis, Samuel Jr., and Whitfield built a house there. Referred to as Lonesome Valley by a later settler, William Evans, who was homesick for Virginia. Produces textiles, hosiery, minerals, tobacco, glass products, and pickles.
