Muddy Creek
Also known as: Dorithea Creek, Gargales Creek
… rises in SW Stokes County and flows S through W Forsyth County and into NW Davidson County, where it enters Yadkin River. Appears as Gargals Creek on the Fry-Jefferson map, 1755, and as Gargales Creek on the Collet map, 1770. The uppermost branch is shown on the Collet map as Dorithea Creek, named for Dorothea, Countess Zinzendorf, whose husband was a patron of the Moravians. Known as Dorithea Creek as early as 1756, but sometime after 1770 its entire course became known as Muddy Creek.
