… town in E Gaston County. First Known as Henderson Shoals for Lawson Henderson, early Lincoln County official; later as Spring Shoals for a local landowner, Adam A. Springs, graduate of the University of North Carolina in 1798. Inc. 1883 as McAdenville. Named for Rufus Yancey McAden (1833-89), speaker of the N.C. House of Representatives in 1866 and local owner of mills. Alt. 600.
