Chainshot Island

A island in Carteret County
NE Carteret County in Core Sound, midway between Hog Island and Harbor Island. Named for a kind of shot consisting of two balls or half balls united by a short chain, formerly used in naval warfare to cut a ship's rigging or to sweep its decks. Named as early as the Moseley map, 1733. See also Hunting Quarter Sound.
